Technically 307s are "medium" journal as far as SBC's go. They're larger than the early small journal stuff, but smaller than the 400. This is the case with 350's too so it's not such a big deal since many 400 cranks have been turned down to fit into 350's and the same can be done for a 307. 1970 Malibu. 355/TH350/3.36.

307's usually got single exhausts and a 2bbl carb. That is why folks said they was slugs. FYI, the 307 was a stroker 283. It has a 283's bore and the same stroke as a 327. Remember chevy took the 283 crank and put them in 327 blocks and those engines ran right nice.
